The National Emergency Management Agency engaged CSIRO to deliver the Northern Rivers Resilience Initiative following the devastating 2022 Northern NSW floods. Alluvium Consulting and Natural Capital Economics (NCE) were engaged by CSIRO to deliver a rapid review and assessment of flood mitigation options. The outcome of this work was to inform investment in the region in 2022–23, as well as recovery and resilience efforts.
Each of the seven flood-affected Local Government Areas were consulted to identify and prioritise effective intervention options. From the options identified, NCE completed economic analysis of flood risk to provide an understanding of the economic damages. This was used to inform the prioritisation of funding for adaptation and contributed towards a multi criteria analysis of adaptation options.
